Chinese Ambassador to Ireland Zhao Xiyuan Visits County Mayo

From August 25th to 26th, Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan and Madame Li Yi visited County Mayo and met with John Caulfield, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council and Kevin Kelly, Chief Executive of Mayo County Council. They also visited the National Museum of Ireland Country Life, local sea salt manufacturing company, and conducted on-site study of the county greenway project.

Cllr. Caulfield and Mr. Kelly introduced the overview of transportation, education, and pillar industries in Mayo County, as well as its development plan for the next five years. They said that Mayo County is rich in renewable energy and natural tourism resources with great potential, and welcomed more Chinese companies and tourists to learn about and visit Mayo County to jointly seek development.

Ambassador Zhao said that China is Ireland's largest trading partner in the Asia-Pacific region, and its vast market and advanced renewable energy technologies offer numerous opportunities to Ireland's counties and cities. Irish writers, including Rooney, a writer from County Mayo, are beloved by Chinese readers, and the two direct flight routes further shorten the distance between the two countries. It is hoped that County Mayo will continue to deepen its cooperation and exchanges with China, adding new impetus to strengthening China-Ireland friendship.
