China Urges Diplomacy, Says Military Force Can’t Resolve Mideast Conflict
According to reports, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters in Beijing that the prolonged US-Israel confrontation with Iran, which has lasted for more than three months, has caused significant damage to countries in the Gulf region.
“Facts have proven military means cannot solve any problem and arbitrary use of force will only complicate the issues,” Lin said.
He was responding to reports of alleged Israeli violations of a ceasefire in Lebanon, despite US pressure on Israel to avoid further strikes.
According to reports, Lin also noted that negotiations between Iran and the United States are currently at a critical stage and warned against actions that could reignite conflict.
“No party should reignite military conflict,” he said, urging respect for the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Middle Eastern states.
“China calls on relevant parties to remain calm, exercise restraint, stop any confrontational action that may escalate the conflict, take concrete action to cool down the situation, resolve disputes through political and diplomatic means, and work for an early comprehensive and lasting ceasefire,” he added.
