China Pushes for Steady Growth in Humanoid Robot Industry
The field, which includes humanoid robots as a prime example, is expanding rapidly within China, according to NDRC spokesperson Li Chao at a Thursday press briefing.
She highlighted that, "Meanwhile, humanoid robots have yet to fully mature in terms of technological pathways, business models and application scenarios."
Li emphasized that China hosts a rising number of more than 150 humanoid robot enterprises, with over half being startups or companies entering from other industries. Yet, she warned of potential challenges, such as an oversupply of similar products and shrinking space for research and development efforts.
To provide clear direction for the embodied intelligence sector, the NDRC is collaborating with relevant authorities to enhance policy support, accelerate technological innovations, and promote the practical application of research findings, the spokesperson explained.
Looking ahead, the commission plans to establish industry benchmarks and evaluation frameworks while refining entry and exit protocols, aiming to cultivate a competitive and fair market environment.
Additionally, efforts will focus on building infrastructure for embodied intelligence, encouraging nationwide integration of associated technologies and industrial resources, and speeding up real-world deployment, Li added.
