Beijing seeks to maintain “aspiration of eternal friendship” with Moscow

(MENAFN) Beijing is committed to maintaining “the original aspiration of eternal friendship” with Moscow, Chinese Premier Li Qiang told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday during their meeting at the Kremlin.

Li emphasized that China’s determination and stance to pursue mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia “have always been consistent,” according to reports.

Amid a volatile international landscape, the premier stated that Beijing is prepared to “further enhance the resilience of cooperation with Russia, consolidate and maintain the steady development (and) momentum of bilateral cooperation.”

He encouraged both nations to maximize advantages such as visa-free travel, promote public exchanges, and deepen people-to-people connections.

“China stands ready to work with Russia to uphold the original aspiration of eternal friendship, enhance alignment of development strategies, deepen cooperation in various fields, achieve more practical results, so as to better serve the development and rejuvenation of the two countries,” Li said.

Li arrived in Moscow on Monday to participate in a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) Council of Heads of Government, which was held on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Putin remarked that the close partnership between Moscow and Beijing within this framework has helped the SCO become “one of the pillars of a multipolar world order,” among other achievements. He also noted, according to a Kremlin transcript of his opening comments, that the two countries will continue to advance trade cooperation according to approved long-term plans and emphasized the importance of safeguarding “our trade and economic cooperation from negative external influences.”
